Woke up and wasn't sure what to do,am keen to go to Southend to do 30 kts on my raceboard - sad I know !!! but my 8.5 is being repaired and I haven't sorted out some humpit style wheels to get my board to the course and there is no way I am carrying it !!! So I checked the tides and found the tides were good for an canoe attempt from Wilford Bridge just above Woodbridge to Felixstowe and it is sunny and warm which makes a change from the last couple of days !!! We arrived at Wilford a bit too early as the tide was still coming in but had a cuppa and pumped up the canoe and set off near slack water at 12.45.It then took over an hour to make it to Woodbridge Mill :( with not much tide and the wind against us !!! and then when we turned toward Woodbridge SC the wind picked up to a good breeze and it chopped up making progress downriver very slow :( We stopped for a picnic lunch just past the SC where Mag had tiny frogs on her feet :) before heading downriver to Kyson Point where we turned to canoe back to our van - big mistake as it would have been better to canoe to Waldringfeild and get our son to pick us up as making against the tide was painfully slow and we were also running out of water !!! but we made it back knackered packed the canoe away and then had a walk up river to the railway bridge :)
So we learned a lession today that our canoe is not suited to long trips,we also need to try the double paddles and we need really still day - early morning best - with the wind at our backs or just don't canoe so'ooooooooooooo far.Still we enjoyed the trip down seeing all manor of birds and taking loads of pics !!!
Then when we got home and unpacked our waterproof bag we found a small toad which had climbed into our lunchbag we released it in our garden :)
